Suff Daddy - Basically Sober (2022/Germany)
Berlin-based producer, beatmaker, and all-around big papa Suff Daddy returns with an irresistibly-bouncy instrumental long player to herald in the new year, aptly titled âBasically Sober.â
As Suff says of the album, âThese beats basically made themselves. They all just got out, I donât even remember the process. It sounds cheesy, but they really are a reflection of my state of mind at that moment. Itâs been a fucking great time.â With the way the world has been turning, itâs best to be Basically Sober.Â
Lee Fields - Let's Get a Groove On (USA/2020)
Freshly unleashed from the vaults of Desco Records and remastered for the first time since its 1998 release, it is an honor to announce the re-release of one of the finest and most satisfying needle drops of the last 40 years, Lee Fields’ classic, Let’s Get a Groove On. In addition to ushering in the funk revival of the 1990âs, this album was a watershed moment that laid roots for the future of soul music to come, being not only Fieldsâ re-introduction to the modern scene, but featuring background vocals by a young Miss Sharon Jones as well. Lee, who has been a steady player in the game since the late 1960’s, releasing a dozen or so funk/soul sides. The release of Let’s Get a Groove On revitalized Lee’s career, placing him in the forefront of a burgeoning scene where he still stands today. This highly sought-after album is as raw and relevant as ever.
Broz Inc - Body Fresh (France/2019)
Badam Music has been plotting a slow course to victory since its launch in 2018, with a decided focus on quality over quantity.
Tiawa - Moonlight Train (UK/2021)
Tiawa’s debut album âMoonlit Trainâ is a conceptual record that maps a metaphorical train journey from relationships through to healing and liberation. Gently easing between soul, 90s hip-hop and Latin-folk that harks back to Tiawa’s Portuguese heritage, the inspiration for the LP comes from the rebellious spirit of reggae, the pace of lyricism in reggaeton, and the romanticism of doo-wop.
âEach song on the album is part of an emotional journey. I hope it helps to heal people in serious situations and makes them feel better afterwards. “Saudade” is the introduction to ‘Moonlit Train’ and opens with a Portuguese poem that translates to ‘don’t be sad now, I’m going to play a song for youâ, in the background you can hear the movement of a train on the tracksâŠâ Tiawa explains.
V.A. - 27!k7 (Germany/2012)
Stud!o K7 has produced electronic music artists, especially for the DJ-Kicks compilations. It began in 1985 with the idea of releasing digital video clips. In 1991, the first of the 3LUX series (three volumes) was released, followed by the X-Mix series (from 1993 to 1998). In 1995, the DJ-Kicks series was released. At that time it was unconventional to play complete albums with DJ cuts on home stereos. Artists such as Kruder & Dorfmeister, Nightmares On Wax, Thievery Corporation and Stereo MC’s Chromeo, Booka Shade contributed to its release. The compilation series has since included mixes from Jackmaster, Seth Troxler, Marcel Dettmann, Michael Mayer, DJ Koze, Nina Kraviz, Daniel Avery and John Talabot.
Kokoroko - Somthing's Going On (UK/2022)
Kokoroko return with brand new music illuminating the start of 2022, following the enormous success of their viral debut track âAbusey Junctionâ and most recently the exhilarating âBaba Ayoolaâ in 2020, 2021 involved a hiatus to write new material. We are proud to announce the London 8-piece collective’s electrifying single âSomethingâs Going Onâ available digitally on 4th February 2022 via Brownswood Recordings.
Inspired by the enforced stillness and unsettling existential crises collectively experienced through this ongoing global pandemic. The song opens with a twinkling promise of a new era, an ethereal sensation that escapes reality, suddenly drumrolls and crashes, like a thunderclap, into the prominent chant âSomethingâs going on, somethingâs happening nowâ.Â
